JOB DESCRIPTION

Western Heights School District is looking for energetic and motivated substitute teachers to work with students at all levels, from pre-kindergarten to high school. You should be flexible and have some sort of education experience. Official experience and/or a state teaching license is good, but we welcome those with informal experience too. For example, if you have worked as a tutor, child care provider or babysitter, you could be a great asset to our district. We have lots of opportunities for the right candidates, and you can prioritize certain schools, subjects, grades and even classrooms. Our system is modern, and you’ll be notified via phone or may login to the site to review open assignments. Upon selection information will be sent to candidates. Successful candidates will have to undergo a background check.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow regular teacher’s lesson plans in a way that ensures consistency and optimal learning, and that encourages students to participate
  • Assign classwork and homework as necessary, according to lesson plans
  • Modify teaching styles to fit the learning styles of various students
  • Maintain a well-managed classroom and positive learning environment
  • Supervise students out of class such as in the hallways and in the cafeteria

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret lesson plans, technical procedures, and textbooks. Ability to write general correspondence. Ability, both orally and in writing, to present information effectively and respond appropriately to questions and concerns from individuals, administrators, parents, and students. Ability always to communicate using correct grammar

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form and to understand abstract and concrete variables.

 

OTHER PERFORMANCE MEASURES:  Good people skills are essential to the successful performance of the job.  Following safety guidelines and policies are critical to the safety of the substitute teacher, other staff and students.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

In an eight-hour work day, the employee must sit, stand or walk for varying lengths in order to deliver instruction and properly supervise students throughout the school building as required.  Employee’s job requires occasional reaching above the shoulder to write on a chalkboard. Job requires occasional bending/stooping or squatting/crouching to interact with students at their desks, on the floor or at eye level.  Job requires occasional carrying/lifting up to ten pounds to transport instructional materials to the classroom from other parts of the building. Employee must possess manual dexterity sufficient to write on a whiteboard. Employee must possess enough visual ability to supervise students in the classroom, hallways and large areas such as auditoriums and cafeterias.  Employee must possess hearing ability to supervise students and to interact with students individually and in group settings. Employee must possess speaking requirement enough to deliver instruction throughout the work day in the classroom and supervise students throughout the school building. Employee must have mobility enough to interact with students during instructional delivery and supervise students throughout the day.   Job requires working outdoors in various temperatures to supervise students on lunch or playground duty.
