ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION ACADEMY COORDINATOR

Education Level: Masters degree

Certification: Secondary and administrative certification

Experience: Three years of experience of secondary education; secondary teaching experience; experience with at-risk students; experience with credit recovery. Administrative expierence preferred. 

 

The Alternative Education Academy Coordinator is responsible for managing the Alternative Academy and At-Risk program in order to promote the educational development of each student assigned to the program.

 

Job Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and monitor services for alternative education students and at-risk students.
• Create partnerships with outside agencies to create new opportunities and programs for students.
• Implement procedures to identify and monitor at-risk students at the secondary level, including review of student data.
• Supervises teachers and students in the classroom, throughout the building, and on grounds throughout the work day.
• Maintain a positive learning environment that stimulates the students to learn in both an active and passive mode.
• Directly supervise the team of teachers that are assigned to the Alternative Academy and At-Risk Program.
• Assist students with academic or personal issues through student/teacher/parent conferences, home visits, district staff, and resource referrals to affect their solution.
• Provide students in at-risk situations with alternative course work through curriculum modification and acceleration.
• Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the at-risk program and implement changes based on the findings.
• Provide resources and materials to aid staff in accomplishing program objectives.
• Contact parents/guardians of at-risk students for the purpose of soliciting their help.
• Reaches and identifies appropriate curriculum based measurement tools to provide frequent monitoring of students’ progress in collaboration with secondary principals, Instructional Coaches, school counselors, and other site based staff.
• Works collaboratively with the MS and HS principals to understand the district goals to implement a plan to achieve at high levels and to help students, as well as ensure a smooth transition.
• Works collaboratively with the MS and HS principals to ensure smooth processes and procedures are in place.
• Compiles data from a variety of sources and uses the data to drive decision making.
• Maintains a variety of files and records, employee and student records and other highly confidential documents.
• Consult with parents, secondary administrators, counselors, teachers, community agencies, and other relevant individuals regarding students in at-risk situations.
• Teaching duties may be assigned as needed.
